The 4C’s of PAL – an evidence-based model for implementing peer assisted learning for mature students

Peer Assisted Leaning (PAL) programmes have been shown to enhance learner confidence and an overall positive effect on comprehension, particularly in subjects traditionally perceived as difficult. This research describes the findings of a three-cycle Action Research study into benefits implementing such programme for mature students enrolled computer science programming module Access Foundation Programme Irish University. The from this suggest that peer learning offer valued support structure aids transition acculturation tertiary education whilst simultaneously improving their subject-matter comprehension confidence. An evidence-based model PAL implementation was subsequently developed, underpinned by associated pedagogic theory study. Our promotes student-focused educational enhancement framework is transferable wider higher setting.
